The Downey Dental Group building is a 4,200 SF mixed use project that was designed by Sparano + Mooney Architecture to include medical dentistry offices and commercial retail space. The sustainably-designed building references the mid-century modern architecture of the manufacturing facilities of the aviation and space industries found throughout the City of Downey. The facade incorporates a series of ipe wood screens that mediate between the street front and the interior of the building, providing for both privacy and connection. A sliver of native landscape runs between the screens and the glazed facade, offering connections between the indoor and outdoor spaces and softening of the concrete and asphalt that surrounds the urban site.
