The Downey Dental Group building is a 4,200 SF mixed use project that includes dentistry offices as well as retail space. The design of the building references the mid-century modern manufacturing facilities of the aviation and space industries found throughout the City of Downey. The facade includes a series of ipe wood screens that mediate between the street front and the interior of the building, providing for both privacy and connection. A sliver of landscape runs between the screens and the glazed facade, providing connections between the indoor and outdoor spaces as well as a softening of the sea of concrete and asphalt that surrounds the urban site.
